One of the most important procurement concerns is supply chain visibility. Compliance with regulatory standards and risk mitigation requires visibility across the supply chain. Yet, according to a Deloitte survey of Global CPO, 65 percent of procurement professionals had no visibility outside their tier-one suppliers.
Need for Better Risk Management
Supply risk is another key issue in the procurement process. Managing sole supplier contracts, market risks (availability of products, price volatility), potential frauds (theft or invoice fraud), cost, quality, delivery risks, and dealing with compliance risks such as policy adherence, anti-corruption issues are just a few of the huge risks that follow along the supply chain.
Control & Visibility of Spending
Procurement professionals face one of the most difficult challenges: uncontrolled expenditure. Indirect spending includes orders placed by accident, rush orders, and purchases (from suppliers selling additional things) conducted outside of the company's defined procurement procedures, resulting in revenue and control loss. In addition, procurement strategy, department budgets, inventory management, and financial audits are all complicated because these purchased objects cannot be easily accounted for in financial and inventory records.
Inaccurate Data
One of the most significant procurement difficulties is inaccurate data. There are various systems and tools to manage the procurement process as it becomes more automated. However, because these tools aren't linked, most data entering is done manually, which leads to errors.
Compliance to Contract
Another issue in procurement is supplier contract compliance. It's tough to monitor if suppliers meet their duties when there are so many. According to reports, 29% of firms believe their compliance needs to improve.
Automation is The Way to Overcome Procurement Challenges
With the correct tools and technology, the obstacles in the procurement department can be overcome. Procurement process automation relieves procurement specialists of low-value duties, allowing them to focus on strategic matters.
