Leadership is the cornerstone of any prosperous enterprise, directing its course while cultivating a collaborative culture that impacts employee experience and propels teams toward success. Given the significant influence leadership has, it is imperative to measure leadership effectiveness, and support each leader on a path of self-awareness and continuous improvement.
Peter Berry Consultancy (PBC) has had 30 years of experience developing key talent of all levels and industries to enhance leadership capabilities. As an evidence-based assessment provider, PBC uses scientific tools to elevate leadership performance to foster improved business outcomes.
PBC’s proprietary tool, the Hogan 360, is widely regarded as one of the leading 360s globally. 360-degree feedback tools are used for measuring reputation by comparing a manager’s self-evaluation of their capabilities with anonymous feedback from their colleagues. The Hogan 360 is a joint collaboration between PBC and Hogan Assessments, an esteemed provider within the global personality assessment industry.
One of the features that has made the Hogan 360 a tool of choice for so many organizations is its global benchmark of over 30,000 leaders. This global benchmark allows participants to compare their score to other leaders around the world to contextualize their leadership capabilities. In the past leaders had to rely on subjective measures to prove they were exceptional. With the Hogan 360, a leader can say that they scored in the 90th percentile among thousands of leaders in the benchmark, adding meaningful perspective to their leadership capabilities.
“We analyze the Hogan 360 data, coach leaders through how to interpret the results, and create a development plan to help them understand their impact on people and the business and build their own brand of leadership,” says Peter Berry, Managing Director at Peter Berry Consultancy.

Berry first began developing the prototype of the Hogan 360 over two decades ago, making PBC one of the first consultancies in Australia to use a 360-degree feedback tool. 360s were initially used as a one-on-one feedback tool for managers, and eventually evolved to be used in performance evaluations, with mixed results. Today, 360s are mainly used by organizations to measure leadership capabilities and support individual career development.
“The Hogan 360 provides a snapshot in time of one's personal brand, and we believe that building your personal brand is the key to career success,” says Berry.
By quantifying how the leader is perceived, a leader can start to understand how they impact their team and key relationships in the workplace. Leadership behavior has a disproportionate effect on team dynamics, and can make the difference between a high-performing and favorable team environment or a toxic and dysfunctional one.
The Hogan 360 Suite offers assessments to cover all job levels, from early career through to board level, allowing organizations to build their talent pipeline. It also caters to people seeking a personalized experience to leadership development rather than the one-size-fits-all training programs that are available in the market.
In a notable instance, a multinational manufacturing company implemented the Hogan 360 as a key component in a coaching program for the top hundred leaders globally. Harvard Business School coached the leaders using the feedback tool, and the response was highly positive. The coaches found it to be an invaluable tool, enabling precise identification of each participant’s development areas.
Hogan 360 also proves useful in events like succession planning, which tend to be typically influenced by workplace favoritism and achievement visibility. By introducing objectivity in evaluation, the tool ensures comprehensive assessment of leaders, including those who may be quiet achievers.
